New Walking Mountains Science Center "Drys-In"

Written by Walking Mountains | Mar 14, 2011 10:23:51 PM

Today Walking Mountains Science Center celebrated a "drying-in" ceremony with RA Nelson and Associates, Builder of the Buck Creek Campus.  RA Nelson's team has been concentrating on the construction of the building envelope - the interface between the interior of the building and the outdoor environment including the walls, roof and foundation.  This day marks the completion of the all the elements that lend to a sheltered, "dry" interior space.  We are well on our way to campus opening in late August of 2011!

The Science Center will be a showcase and teaching tool for the latest in sustainable, energy efficient technology.  Many of the components will go above and beyond LEED certification.  When finished, multiple buildings will consume only half the energy of a typical school building.

Energy Saving Building Features

  • Air tight building seal with high levels of air flow control ventilation
  • Thermal Cavity Insulation
  • Double paned windows with suspended film
  • Straw bale walls
  • Highly insulated roof/ ceiling cavity

With this new campus comes an unprecedented opportunity to better serve all K-12 kids in Eagle County as we strive to inspire environmental stewardship through natural science education.

Lastly, but certainly not least - a big thank you to all those hard-working folks at RA Nelson - this really is a special project and we would not be here without your help and support!
