Vail bird enthusiasts - join us at the Vail Nature Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30am for a morning bird walk.  (June - mid August). We'll walk through the meadows and woods along the Gore Creek to learn about a great variety of birds, what they need and how you can attract birds to your own backyard.  Directions to the Vail Nature Center.

White Faced Ibis In Colorado

It's that time of year when all kinds birds are flying home from their Southern wintering grounds.  Colorado is a midway point on the Central Flyway and is a good stopping ground for many tired fliers.  As spring develops and we near the warmer summer months keep your eyes peeled for foreign-looking feathered friends passing by.

Just last night on a walk around Nottingham Lake, I spied a flock of White Faced Ibis.  They winter as far South as El Salvador and return to Western marshes (often near Salt Lake City) for breeding.

Nottingham Lake was actually teaming with birds, a happy sign that warmer weather is right around the corner!

Evening Grosbeaks are also back in the Valley, keep an eye out for these colorful and chatty birds!  The Vail Nature Center will be opening soon (end of June) - bird enthusiasts will enjoy the morning bird walks offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30am.  Hope to see you there!
