The Science Behind Ayurveda Yoga with Julia Clarke

Ayurveda, often referred to as the sister science of yoga, is one of the fastest growing Complementary Alternative Medicine systems in the West. Its perception of health and disease are markedly different from Western medicine, but Ayurveda has proven to be an equally powerful source of preventative and curative medicine that can complement all other health systems. Though its concepts are rooted in ancient texts, Ayurveda is a comprehensive and holistic medical science that is based on thousands of years of scientific observation, and supported by modern clinical testing. Maharishi Ayurveda has been reformulated and evolved by experts, doctors and scientists to take into account the modern Western lifestyle and body, and offers a systematic approach to cultivating health through diet, routine and herbs.

Join Certified Maharishi Ayurveda Wellness Consultant Julia Clarke at Walking Mountains Science Center to find out what Ayurveda is and how to apply its concepts to your life to improve your health. Julia Clarke is a Scotland native who moved to Vail in 2009 to teach yoga and Ayurveda. She grew up with Ayurveda and formally trained at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, IA and AVN Arogya Ayurvedic Hospital in Madurai, India. She is currently the Yoga Director at the Vail Vitality Center, and teaches workshops and teacher trainings around the state and the country.

Learn how Ayurveda, like modern quantum physics, views the body as a consequence of the finer elements of the universe, and how it views disease as the final product of a deeper disturbance within those elements and our underlying natural intelligence. Central to Ayurveda is the concept of the doshas, the three body types, which are rooted in the five elements and determine your physical, mental and emotional characteristics. In this interactive session you will learn how to identify your own body type, develop an understanding of your tendencies towards sickness and allergies, and leave with some simple measures for tailoring your diet and routine to stay healthy and energized.
