Fresh Off the Trail: Fireweed Wildflower Bloom

Written by Walking Mountains Science Center | Aug 10, 2017 4:38:32 PM

This showy pink bloom is a flower that comes with many stipulations! Fireweed is a pioneer species and is most readily observed in disturbed environments (ski areas, roadcuts, and construction areas) where it is the first to take root. Note how the buds bloom from the bottom up to the top of the plant. Legend has it, that when the top buds bloom, it is time to go back to school!
