Jay Precourt and Kim Langmaid with Walking Mountains staff in 2019, celebrating their shared commitment to sustainability.

Jay Precourt played a pivotal role in the development and growth of Walking Mountains, leaving a lasting impact on the organization. Precourt’s belief in the mission of Walking Mountains, combined with his extraordinary generosity, did more than just transform the organization; it inspired many others to support its science, education, and sustainability efforts.

Precourt’s efforts were instrumental in turning Walking Mountains’ ambitious vision of building a world-class environmental learning campus in the Eagle Valley into a reality, with his family's name on facilities such as the Precourt Mountain Discovery Center, Borgen Precourt Center for Sustainability, and Precourt Family Sweetwater Campus.

"Personally, the time I spent with Jay provided me with the encouragement and guidance I needed to succeed early in my career," shared Markian Feduschak, President of Walking Mountains. "I heard from him so many times, with that signature grin on his face, 'Markian, you're doing great work!'"

In 2008, Molly and Jay Precourt were honored with Walking Mountains’ Reach for the Peak Award, which recognizes individuals whose contributions significantly change lives through the power of education, environmental stewardship, conservation, and science.  The impact of Precourt’s philanthropy can be seen in the tens of thousands of people Walking Mountains serves each year, especially local students who benefit directly from the programs and facilities supported by the Precourt family.

Reflecting on Precourt’s legacy, Feduschak added, "I have been reminiscing about the many times Kim Langmaid and I met with Jay over the years and the incredible enthusiasm and support he always provided. His passing leaves a significant void for us and for our community."

Jay Precourt's generosity and passion for supporting local youth, energy efficiency, and sustainability have created a ripple effect that extends far beyond Walking Mountains, reaching many other nonprofits and initiatives throughout Eagle County and beyond. Our heartfelt thoughts are with Jay’s family and his many friends in the community.
