Kim Langmaid, JohnRyan Lockman and Melissa Kirr will be joining the Walking Mountains team

You may or may not have seen the recent news about Walking Mountains and the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability.  We are thrilled to welcome the EVAS team!

WHAT’S HAPPENING?
We’re excited to share the news that Walking Mountains Science Center is expanding its programs and its reach by folding a sister non-profit – the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability – into the Walking Mountains’ organization.

Bringing the Alliance into the Science Center will allow us to create a third area of programming to be called the Sustainability and Stewardship Programs.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
The missions of the two organizations fit perfectly together and create more opportunities for more people in our community. In fact, our combined efforts will have an exponential impact across our Valley.

  • Walking Mountains works to awaken a sense of wonder and inspire environmental stewardship through natural science education.
  • The Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability promotes sustainable practices for businesses and residents through energy efficiency, waste reduction, landscape stewardship and sustainability education and certification.

Together, we can broadly serve the community by providing opportunities to learn science and practice sustainable living. We see this as a natural evolution of Walking Mountains’ mission – moving from awareness to action – as well as a continuum of our programs and a good use of resources. We will become known as a leader in science education, environmental stewardship & sustainability.

WHO WILL IT IMPACT?
Everyone in our community will benefit as the two organizations become one under Walking Mountains.

Fewer organizations but more impact.
Walking Mountains Science Center will become a single science and sustainability resource for the entire community.

More programs that touch more people.
We will have a full continuum of programs for children, adults, visitors, residents and business. People of all ages will be able to learn science and practice sustainable living.

More reasons to come to campus.
The beautiful Science Center Campus will become a center for the community as we offer expanded programming for all.

More efficient use of resources.
We will eliminate duplication of efforts and better leverage philanthropic support, fee for services and revenue generating opportunities

WHEN WILL IT HAPPEN?
Boards of both non-profits have already approved the decision because it makes perfect sense; it eliminates duplication of effort and leverages available knowledge and resources.

HOW WILL IT WORK?
The programs of the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability will be offered through Walking Mountains Science Center, and the staff will share office space on the Science Center Campus.

Kim Langmaid will oversee Sustainability and Stewardship Programs. Over time, operations and fundraising efforts will be streamlined.

Walking Mountains Science Center Board will be expanded to include three members from the former Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability Board. A new committee, Sustainability and Stewardship will be formed to serve in an advisory capacity for this program.

WHERE CAN WE GET MORE INFORMATION?
Stay tuned over the coming weeks for important updates to be shared online, in emails and in the media.

The Walking Mountains website will soon include important information about:

  • Its new Sustainability and Stewardship Programs; and
  • Opportunities to register for programs.
