Prepare for the New Year by joining the Eagle Valley sustainability movement. Walking Mountains Sustainability is hosting an Actively Green Sustainable Business Certification trainings throughout the new year. The Actively Green Certification program helps local businesses learn new sustainability practices specific to the Eagle Valley. Trainings this year are free for Vail Valley Partnership members along with Town of Vail & Avon Businesses. To help reach the goals of the recently adopted Climate Action Plan for The Eagle County Community, Eagle County has provided funding so the first ten businesses certified in 2017 receive 50% off their annual fees.
The Actively Green Sustainable Business Certification Program is part of a larger movement to create a culture of sustainability throughout the Eagle Valley. Over 120 businesses have participated in the trainings with over 50 businesses currently certified and many more actively working toward certification. The program was developed with global nonprofit partner Sustainable Travel International and any type of business or organization is fit to participate.
“With a focus on sustainability, we prepare ourselves for the long-term and set ourselves up for success in every way; successful organization, engaged employees, a connection to the community, and a healthy environment,” said Stefanie Price, the Vail Valley Foundation’s HR Director.
During the upcoming training businesses will learn about business sustainability best-practices: how to save money and reduce waste, engage employees in a green team, use a sustainability management system, create an action plan, and increase marketing power to attract more customers.
Actively Green can do even more for you than tangible savings and waste reduction. Casey Zwaan gives his take on how the program has enhanced his work at his company, Beaver Divers. “As more and more businesses become Actively Green, I find that I am able to develop new relationships and redevelop old relationships. A community of like-minded ideas is developing through Actively Green.”
