Outfitting homes and businesses with Energy Star-certified appliances and lightbulbs can help reduce energy usage, save money, and has never been easier!

Did you know that the Energy Smart Colorado program offered locally through Walking Mountain Science Center has helped local homes and businesses save more than $1,000,000 on their energy bills since 2011? Learning how to be more energy efficient can save us all a lot of money, make our homes more comfortable and safe, reduce our collective negative impact on the environment, and help us reach our county and state-wide climate goals for the future.

In celebration of the economic and environmental benefits driven by energy efficiency improvements, the U.S. Senate passed a bill to officially make Oct. 6, Energy Efficiency Day. As much a celebration of the successes that have resulted from energy efficiency work in the U.S., this day also aims to bring additional awareness to the importance of energy efficiency.

So how has the Walking Mountains Energy & Buildings team helped locals save over $1,000,000 on utility expenses? Through the Energy Smart Colorado program we offer home energy assessments and incentives to homes and businesses locally, and we have an income-qualified program. With the support of the Energy Smart Colorado’s tools and network, Walking Mountains Energy & Buildings staff are able to help local residents and business owners find the right equipment upgrades and apply for rebates that will ultimately reduce their energy bills.

A certified building analyst will walk through your home or business and help you understand the best energy-saving devices while providing coaching along the way on best practices. The staff also works with income-qualified homes locally, helping them increase their comfort, create safer and healthier living environments, and save money on utility bills.

Walking Mountains’ Sustainability Programs team is hosting an energy efficiency workshop for businesses to reveal local opportunities for energy efficiency rebates and share energy-saving ideas on October 13th at 2:30 pm. Sign up, for free, here: Sustainable Business Energy Workshop. Businesses will have the opportunity to hear from energy coaches at Walking Mountains, local utility professionals, and other specialists that can help with understanding energy use in their buildings.

Here are three tips to help you increase your energy knowledge and improve efficiency in your home or business:

  1. Get a home energy assessment and find out how to improve your home to make it more comfortable, energy efficient, safe to live in, and less expensive to operate. Sign up for a home energy assessment during October and be eligible for an additional $100 towards rebates on eligible projects.
  2. Take advantage of Walking Mountains Science Center’s programs. Join the FREE Business Easy Energy Solutions Workshop on Oct. 13 at 2:30 pm. The workshop will provide tools, resources and easy solutions for energy efficiency. Visit Walking Mountains Sustainability Hub to learn more about other energy programs offered through Walking Mountains.
