In July 2018 alone, 120 million people across the globe took part in the challenge across 177 countries. Participants reduced their household waste on average by 76kg per household per year (7.6%), and contributed to a total saving of 490 million kg of plastic waste each year. Walking Mountains Science Center also began a Plastic Free July initiative specifically for Eagle County. More than 6 out of 10 of local participants are already refusing plastic shopping bags, avoiding pre-packaged fruit and vegetables, picking up other people's litter and avoiding buying bottled water. All the little steps we take together help us to #BeBetterTogether and meet our Climate Action Collaborative goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Eagle County 25% by 2025.
