At first glance, it may seem that nature hides during the winter under the piles of snow that we receive here in the mountains. Many of us are ready to cozy up on the couch with a cup of cocoa after a day on the slopes. But there are plenty of other winter activities to do and nature to be found! Animals who walk through the snow leave clues for us to discover, birds fly overhead and snow itself creates unique formations and sounds. It’s the perfect time to get out there and participate in this winter scavenger hunt for kids (or kids at heart)!

If you are venturing out to participate in this scavenger hunt or any other winter activity make sure to be prepared! Go with extra food and water, extra warm and waterproof clothing layers, and a map of where you are going. Let others know where you are heading and when you plan to be back. This ensures that you’ll thrive in the winter weather while completing your scavenger hunt.
It’s also important to practice “Leave No Trace” principles while out this winter. Stay on designated trails, clean up after yourself, and let only your footprints tell the story of where you went. While participating in the scavenger hunt bring a camera, a sketchbook or a good memory rather than taking items found home with you.
This scavenger hunt can be completed in a park, on a trail, or a backyard. Stay curious!
