Think Local & Take Care of Yourself!

Did you know that, according to a 2017 report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, people’s reported life satisfaction in the United States has fallen gradually during the past 10 years, from an average of 7.3 to 6.9 (measured on a 0-10 scale)? When we talk about sustainability, we often mention the three Ps: people, planet, profit, or the three Es: environment, economy, social equity. Individuals and their well-being are an important component of sustainability; it is even one of the United Nations’ global Sustainable Development Goals. For the month of October, Walking Mountains is highlighting the benefits of thinking local for our environment, our economy, and our community. Three tips for what you can do to improve your personal well being!

1.) Checkup and in. Taking preventive measures like going to the doctor regularly is a good way to stay healthy. Also, being mindful of your body’s needs, like hydration and adequate rest, by checking in with yourself will keep you physically and mentally sharp.

2.) Breath.Take a deep breath and unplug from technology for a little bit. For a more guided approach, consider the 5-3-1 practice: meditate 5 minutes, write down 3 good things that have happened to you today, and do 1 act of kindness. source: (Source: Center for Healthy Minds

3.) Be active. Whether at the gym, under the sun, or an active commute, find a way to incorporate activity into your daily routine. Exercise is well-known to improve your physical and mental well-being.
