Staff Spotlight: Rose Delles
What is your position at Walking Mountains? What is your primary responsibility?
I am the Finance Manager. I do the day-to-day bookkeeping. If there is a monetary transaction in or out of Walking Mountains, I process it.

How have you been at Walking Mountains?
I started in 2010 as a volunteer then as a Naturalist staffing our Nature Discovery Center on top of the Lionshead Gondola in Vail. Then I was an Educator with Youth Programs, became a Coordinator and moved into a Finance role in 2015. Along the way I also did some of our Human Resources duties and worked with Development as well.

How long have you lived in Eagle County? Where did you live before?
I am from Ouray, Colorado but moved to Eagle County in 2010. I had been living in Bozeman, Montana and Tacoma, Washington before that

What inspires you, in regards to your job?
I LOVE organization and order! I am happiest when I can support Walking Mountains as a whole to be successful in all of our endeavors. I want to be sure our staff have everything they need to put on the best programs we can. I’m a cheerleader from behind the scene and I try to help set us up for success.

Do you have a favorite program or event that WMSC hosts? Why do you enjoy that program?
Having worked as an Educator, I have to say Youth Programs is my favorite – working with the school district and local youth is very special. I loved teaching the same students year to year and watching them learn and grow.

Where else in the community do you work or volunteer?
I have enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity in the past and currently with my local community garden. I am a Board Member on two other endeavors as well.

What is your favorite way to spend time in the outdoors?
I love walking my dog, Watson, but I also enjoy fly fishing, hiking, skiing, paddleboarding and rock climbing.

What is your favorite food?
Anything chocolate and home baked.

What is your favorite animal?
For a few years I loved keeping tabs on a pair of muskrats that lived in the pond at Walking Mountains.

What is your favorite science or nature fact?
I love the Corvid family of birds and did a program once on ravens. They can recognize and distinguish between human faces, solve basic puzzles, and mate for life.

Fun/interesting fact about yourself?
My job in college was to skin and stuff birds for our Natural History Museum on campus.
