Lavender Healing Properties

Have you ever wondered how something works or how something was made? In the monthly Science Behind series, we partner with a guest presenter to explore a large variety of interesting topics. The Science Behind series offers opportunities for adults to apply new knowledge and skills to everyday life, while having fun!

** This Science Behind event took place in August, 2012 **

The Science Behind Medicinal Plants and Healing

The "Science Behind" series continues this month at Walking Mountains with The Science Behind Medicinal Gardens.  Join us Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012 at 6:30pm for a fun-filled, educational evening.

Plants and gardens have a greater purpose than simply to be an eye catching source of food. Discover the science behind designing a medicinal garden. During this program we will discuss the history and origins of medicinal plants and examine the health benefits of plants such as arnica, lavender, basil, and chamomile. We will also demonstrate how to design a garden to address symptoms like pain relief and stress reduction.

Upcoming Science Behind Schedule

Rita Manna, owner of Reet's Garden & Design LLC, will be teaching the class in conjunction with Lara Carlson from Walking Mountains.  Rita is a permaculture designer who specializes in regenerative landscape design. The gardens that she creates are not only beautiful, but functional, water-wise, chemical-free, and healing to both humans, animals and our environment. She is a certified and licensed Permaculture Designer and Landscape Designer.

The Science Behind series of classes highlights useful and fun skills that have underlying scientific principles.  Each class provides a hands-on, interactive component with instruction from a local subject matter expert and a Walking Mountains educator.  Classes are held once a month at Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon.  Spaces are limited, please call to reserve your spot today (970) 827-9725!
