The Science Behind Xeriscaping & How To Incorporate Native Plants in Landscaping
Did you know that an average Colorado household uses 150,000 gallons of water per year? However, with a few easy strategies we could get by with much less.
In Eagle County, one of the greatest challenges gardeners face is providing enough water for their landscaping to survive the dry summers. At 6:30 PM on May 28, Walking Mountains Science Center and the Eagle County CSU Extension will present the Science Behind Xeriscaping: an interactive presentation on how to incorporate native plants to minimize the water needs of your landscaping and garden. The benefits of xeriscaping include less time and money spent watering and an opportunity to reduce the environmental impact of your garden and yard.
Jeff Pieper of the Eagle County CSU Extension will provide tools and information to help land and homeowners reduce the amount of water their landscaping requires. Participants will spend time exploring the native landscaping used on the Walking Mountains Campus in Avon before being given the tools and the opportunity to draft design changes to their own yard or property.
The Science Behind series of classes highlights useful and fun skills that have underlying scientific principles. Each class provides a hands-on, interactive component with instruction from a local expert and a Walking Mountains educator. Classes are held once a month at Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon. Spaces are limited so please call to reserve your spot today (970) 827-9725!
