The Science Behind FatHave you ever wondered how something works or how something was made? In the monthly Science Behind series, we partner with a guest presenter to explore a large variety of interesting topics. The Science Behind series offers opportunities for adults to apply new knowledge and skills to everyday life, while having fun!

** This Science Behind event took place in April, 2016 **

The Science Behind Fat & Nutrition

We receive a lot of confusing messages this day and age about nutrition, and the topic of fat can be one of the most confusing things to grasp when making food choices. Come to Walking Mountains Science Center on April 6th to learn “the good, the bad, and the ugly” about fat during this interactive program.

Our guest presenter is Kristina Sampson, author of “Leave Cancer in the Dust: 50 Tips to Prevent Breast Cancer and Supercharge your Health” and the popular “The Vail Diet” website.

Upcoming Science Behind Schedule

Kristina Sampson is a health coach who follows a holistic approach to health, while advocating balance and moderation. Originally a CPA, Kristina began studying nutrition after being diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer in 2007. With the analytical mind of a CPA, a sharp understanding of science, a voracious thirst for nutrition knowledge, and the experience of applying that knowledge to her own life-or-death health issues, Kristina is passionate about helping people navigate today’s confusing food landscape.

Participants in the Science Behind Fat will learn about what fat is, what the different types of fat are, and why our bodies actually need fat. We will learn how to incorporate healthy fats into our diet and how to cook with oils. Participants will also prepare and eat several delicious snacks made with healthy fats.
