Walking Mountains Science Center COVID-19 Update

**For the latest developments in eagle county visit ecemergency.org**

Avon, CO (March 13, 2020) -  To proactively protect staff, volunteers and community members against COVID-19 executive leadership and staff of Walking Mountains Science Center have decided to close our facilities effective immediately.

The Eagle County Department of Public Health and Environment has issued a standing public health order prohibiting events of 10 people or more. We will close our facilities in accordance with this order.

In accordance with Eagle County School District’s decision to close through April 17 all school field science programs and afterschool programs have also been canceled. We will be in communication with the Eagle County School District and resume programs when appropriate based on their recommendations.

All Walking Mountains’ events taking place offsite throughout the community will also be canceled or postponed. This includes the Sustainable Film Series, backcountry snowshoe programs, early childhood programs, and others.

Always consult with your local health agencies and comply with any quarantine orders but remember, our facilities provide access to many trails and open spaces that are going to be critical to people at this time. They are beautiful outdoor havens allowing for recreation and activity when people are discouraged from being in large crowds. Our trails and open spaces remain accessible even though our buildings will be closed to the public.
